Day in the Life of Adele

Here is what life is like for our little 17 month old.
Mornings: a lot of time I like to wake up around 5 or 5:30 and cry for my paci. Sometimes I go back to sleep sometimes I stay up. Otherwise I'm up anytime from 6 am on. I"m happiest when I sleep till after 7. Get up with my stinky morning paci breath and hair sticking out everywhere. Love my waffles, oatmeals, banana's etc for breakfast. Also like watching sportscenter with dad on ESPN to get caught up on my sports news for the day.
Off we go: 3 days a week I go to school and have fun playing with my friends (although i've gotten in a lot of trouble lately biting and hitting). The other mornings I stay home with dad and/or mom. Mornings I like to burn off some energy at the park, zoo, or visiting the animals at Henry's Ark. Unfortunately this upcoming cold weather is going to make me have to find some new activities. I go down for a nap around 12:30 and usually sleep at least 2 hrs when I'm in my crib. I like to spend afternoons running errands or running around my backyard. I've found a tree I really like.
Dinnertime: I really like to bother mom and dad as they try and cook, so if they're both home they'll tag team with me. I went through a really fussy phase a few weeks ago not wanting to sit in my high chair, but I'm doing better lately sitting and eating like a big girl. I'm a pretty good eater and not very picky eater. Love some green beans and mashed potatoes. But my absolute favorite is ketchup! I can just lick it off a spoon!
Bedtime: I like taking my bath before bed and playing with my toys in the tub. I'm still fascinated by the facet and have to sit RIGHT next to it. My favorite bedtime book is still Goodnight Moon, but I also like No David and Tickle Monster. I'm a good girl and usually go right to sleep when they put me down. This real world stuff wears me out!

Henry's Ark

Dave found this great, free, petting zoo right outside Louisville called Henry's Ark, and we've gone there several times this summer. There are llamas, zebras, pigs, deer, water buffalo, rabbits, you name it wandering around that you can feed.

Boston 2011

We headed to Boston Labor Day weekend, after several delays due to Hurricane Irene, which ended up being a category 1 storm instead of the apocolypse. Had a good time visiting friends and family, and even got to meet our brand new cousin Jack. Took a fun day trip to Mystic, Conn, and didn't have the pizza, but did have some great seafood. Then we spent a couple of great days with Nina at the cape and Adele got to play in the ocean, bay, and pond, as well as help sweep Nina's cottage. Adele also fell in love with the outdoor shower and it was really hard to get her out of it. I also beat Nina twice in word games which was a major victory. I headed back to Louisville, but Adele and Dave stayed a few more days visiting friends and family and getting spoiled rotten by Grandma.

Peach picking

Several weeks ago we spent a Sunday morning at Huber's picking peaches, and of course stocking up on some vino. Adele loved walking through the trees and picking peaches off the trees.

State Fair

Mom, Dave, Adele, and I traveled to the State Fair today and had a lot of fun walking around and seeing all the animals, food, crafts etc. Adele even got to meet Abe Lincoln. We also tried the fried koolaid and deep fried derby pie, all delicious!

Little Bee

We were packing up some of her smaller clothes to give a friend, and everytime I tried to pack up the bumblebee costume Adele would pull it out and want to wear it. Nevermind the fact that it was 90+ degrees outside. she went flying all over the yard looking completely adorable!

Zoo time

Adele's had a great time this summer using our zoo membership. We usually go when it first opens, do a quick ride on the carousel, visit the goats at the petting zoo, and visit the gorillas in the gorilla forest on our way to the splash park. She has a great time at the water park playing in all the fountains and going down the water slides. After that, its a guaranteed nap on the way home!

Daily chores

One of my daily chores is to feed the fish in our fish pond. I am really good at going to the garage, picking up the cup and getting out the fish food, putting the lid back on, and heading over to the pond. I know to be careful and I sit on a rock with mom or dad and throw in piece by piece (can take quite awhile sometimes). I even tried eating some the other day and it didn't taste too bad, don't know why mom was digging it out of my mouth.
side note- gave mom and dad my first kisses last night before bed, they were SO excited!

Summer time fun

Now that I'm a big 14 month old the world is my playground. I walk/run everywhere. The good thing is I don't cry when I fall. I'm very adventurous and don't mind going out of mom and dad's sight, which makes us nervous. I can climb up stairs, but not down. I say momma and dadda and lots of gibberish. Sleeping pretty good during the night, just wakes up a little too early. I love playing in the water, be it splash parks, sprinklers, or my baby pool. I went to the zoo's splash park yesterday and had a BLAST running around and going down the water slides.

1st Birthday

Way behind on the blogging. Adele's 1st birthday coincided with Derby weekend so we turned it into one big party! We had a ton of friends over to watch the horses one, did online betting, and watched Adele attack her birthday cake. I think she could have eaten all of it if i let her. The day after her birthday she went from taking 3-4 steps to walking across entire rooms. No stopping her now! The day afterwards was Mother's Day and we enjoyed a wonderful brunch with the Schaefer family and Adele had a great time playing in the fountain and with the bunny.

9/10 Months

It's amazing how much can happen in 2 months of life. At the last post she was just about ready to crawl, and now she can crawl all over the house. Adele took her first crawling steps with Dad, Grandma, and Grandpa and didn't do to much for a week or so, and then took off and hasn't stopped since then. Around the same time, she started pulling up on things more and more. Then, at 10 1/2 months, while we were down in Florida, getting ready to check out, she decided to take 2 steps without help, in front of lots of family. Now she is cruising around every piece of furniture or object she can find. She has a lot of fun pushing her walking toy around, she just hasn't figured out how to change directions and gets frustrated when she hits walls. Is becoming more brave everyday, and it is a matter of time before she's walking everywhere. Other new fun skills this month include learning to wave, which is hysterical to watch, esp. when she only waves with her fingers. Vocabulary continues to expand, and she is finally saying ma ma, so I don't feel left out. Still just have our 2 bottom teeth, Bernard and Bernice, but they do the job. Continues to have a good appetite, and really enjoys feeding herself. Picked up using a cup really fast and loves her water/apple juice combos. Blueberries are her absolute favorite food, followed by yogurt. Sleeping is still hit or miss. Since moving to the bigger kid room at daycare, there is too much going on, and she's only sleeping 1x during the day which makes for some fun nights when she's completely exhausted. On my days off, she was sleeping 2x for 2 hrs each, but she's cut that back this week too. Last week she was finally sleeping all the way through till 6 ish which was awesome, but this week she's been waking up around 2 am and have to be rocked back to sleep. Maybe a new tooth, maybe a cold, who knows. Here are some pics of this cuteness!

First Beach Trip

We went down last weekend to Sarasota Florida for my cousin Mary's wedding. Accompanying us were 16 other Schaefer's on the plane. Adele had fun playing peek a boo with everyone over the seats. After a yummy brunch at Aunt Boo's we headed out to her first Red Sox (spring training) game. She wasn't a fan of the hot sun, but we were able to sit right up front in the shade for a couple of innings thanks to the nice ushers. She also got three autographs on her jersey, not bad for a first timer. Then that afternoon she had a blast playing in the pool with everyone. Much bigger than a bathtub! Hit the party scene that night for Tapas and Sangria and everyone loved the baby sitting at the bar. The next morning we went to the beach! She didn't mind walking on the sand, but it was a constant battle to keep her from pouring it in her mouth. Had fun playing in the water with Dave, but again, didn't like the heat, so didn't spend a whole lot of time there, which was good, since I had already turned into a lobster. Rested up that afternoon and then headed to the wedding. It was beautiful and Adele loved walking and crawling over the big lawn and trying to pick all the grass and eat it. Monday we visited the Ringling Brother Museum and enjoyed walking around the gorgeous grounds there. Tuesday we came back. So busy 4 days, but a great time!

8 Months

Now that I'm almost 9 Months old, its time for my 8 month update. I continue to grow like a weed, but more upward than outward now. Still like trying new foods, and I've gotten much better at picking up food with my fingers. I'm working on my second tooth, so sleep has been hit or miss this week. Still not crawling yet but SOOO close. I can push up in crawling position and rock and back and forth, but no forward momentum yet. Still like to stand a lot and this weekend, pulled up by herself onto ottoman multiple times. So its still up in the air which will come first walking or crawling. Love to tell stories and favorite words are ba, ba; and today was working on da da.

Baby's First Christmas

Adele enjoyed her first Christmas. Didn't quite understand what was going on, but did like eating the bows and playing with new toys. The week before Christmas, Dave surprised me by taking her to see Santa and get her picture taken. Then Santa gave me a picture of it Christmas morning. Dave said she did great and was one of the few not to cry. She loved petting his beard and white fur cuffs. Christmas Eve we went over to Drew and Kristin's for dinner and then went to Christmas Eve mass that I was singing in choir with. Adele did great and played the first part, and slept the second. So many people to see and play with. We had a beautiful white Christmas to wake up to the next morning. It was the first time in a long time we had gotten to sleep in our own beds Christmas Eve. We enjoyed our family time together and then went to Mom and Dad's to celebrate some more with family. Adele got a lot more presents, as first grandchildren do, including a scoot toy and a red wagon, which she enjoyed riding around the house in. We can't wait till the weather gets warmer to take it outside. I think her favorite toy has been Violet, the leapster dog, who sings and talks with her, and is programmed to say her name and favorite food/color/animal. Here are just a few of the pics from that weekend.
